Over the Edge represents what I love most in roleplaying games: personal creativity, twisted social commentary, a dark sense of humor, and dice rolls that matter. Over 25 years ago, Over the Edge was my personal RPG campaign, designed from the start to be too weird to publish. John Nephew at Atlas Games heard about it and, against my advice, insisted on publishing it. He was right to do so. Over the years, it has been immensely gratifying to see how other designers have been inspired by my game, and now in turn I've been inspired by them. Years ago I told myself that I would never return to this game unless I could do something truly new and valuable with it. Luckily I figured out how to do just that.

Without this, the disastrous Article 13 and Copyright Directive will be voted tomorrow 05th of July at the plenary session of the European Parliament, as they were on 20th of June by the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI). The application of these regulations mandates the establishment of permanent publication control, totally preventing the publications blocked by the algorithms. It will probably lead to the disappeacance of internet's small actors face with the difficulty and cost of putting those measures in place. (In any case the impossibility to do it alone, but the intervention of an external solution has a financial cost and / or alive privacy and surveillance) And it will lead to major censorship. No proper defense mechanism against the blocking mechanism is provided. There is no penalty to block legitimate content, but letting content identified as undesirable by anyone is punishable. The mandated method leaves no space for legitimate use, as they are totally unable to identify them, they will block by default, without examination. Blocking is easy and inexpensive ; unlocking, if it is possible at all, because there is no obligation on this side, long, expensive and uncertain.

L'application de ces réglementations implique la mise en place d'un contrôle à la publication obligatoire et permanent, empêchant totalement les publications bloquées par les algorithmes. Les conséquences sont l'impossibilité pour les petits acteurs de mettre les mesures en place et donc leur disparition (en tous cas l'impossibilité de le faire seul, mais l'intervention d'une solution extérieure a un cout financier et/ou en vie privée et surveillance) ainsi qu'une censure majeure. Aucun mécanisme de défense correct n'est prévu, il n'y a aucune pénalité à bloquer du contenu légitime, mais bien à laisser passer du contenu identifié comme indésirable par n'importe qui. Pour un tiers, le blocage est facile, peu coûteux, le déblocage, s'il est possible car il n'y a de ce côté aucune obligation, long, onéreux et incertain.
