Free Libreté Demo Kit is avalaible. Play children who got lost in the Wetlands, a deserted copy of the real world. Despite malicious shape-shifting monsters eager for their flesh, called sirains, despite never founding their way back home, they built Libreté, the last refuge, on the remnants of the grown-up world. Within the walls of this miraculous place spared by the monsters and the waters of the sky (till now), countless refugees are trying to maintain an entire society, imitating the « paradise » they left behind.

Alas, each new group brings in its wake its own pack of predators, and Sirains slowly, irremediably gather around the fortress, waiting for the day when they will be numerous enough to attack Libreté itself in one final assault. Inside the walls, oblivious children tear themselves apart instead of protecting their realm from the real enemy.

Rules-wise, Libreté brings black bile to a classical PbtA approach (playbooks, moves, 2d6+x). Black bile represents the charaters’ suffering and bitterness. Whenever a player feels that their character has been stressed, humiliated, or frightened, they can take some black bile tokens. These are spent as the character’s stress and rage drive them, making success more attainable, at the risk of going too far and hurting people around them. Having too much black bile can corrupt a character (in the full game) and push them to acts they will doubtlessly regret.

Unlike the full game, the demo kits works around pre-made adventure, cast and child fortress.

Libreté is a French PbtA game by Vivien Feasson that was succesfully crowdfunded in 2017. The demo kit is now avalaible in English.
