”When a game master rolls a 4 sided die and tells the players what will happen next, the players already know how to argue against the roll of a 4 sided die. Consequently, heated discussions quickly follow.

When the game master uses the D-Total, he has 13 elements of information available on the face of every die. Even if his players know how to read the D-Total, they don’t know which of its 13 different faces, the game master is using, so they have little or no argument to change the game masters pronouncement.“

Well, well, well.

  2. It's a big clunky⁽¹⁾ d24 with markings to simulate 13 different die types d2, d3, d4... d24.

⁽¹⁾ autocorrect initially changed that to "unlucky", but maybe it's just chance... wait !

  3. Players who argue with the game master should be burned to the stake. As per the One rule of traditional rpg :"Game Master is always right because there is no rules but His will. "

  4. Funny. Seems to me you have fewer reasons to argue a result if you see the number and know what it means.
Who's like 'i disagree with this polyhedron showing a 3' in real life?

  5. Well, if that's what they like in their game, it's a poor GM the one who wants to deprive them.

  6. right.. i've never see a player argue against the dies and a well established possible outcome, even on a 50/50 basis... against the master who decide without a dice roll, yes...

  7. You always get what you deserve 😉 a GM who lets his players argue a roll deserve it !
    And vice versa 😀

  8. If the GM is going to decide the result regardless, why bother with rolling dice at all? Or any rules or even character sheets? They're not going to fool the players for long. :)

  9. Loving this kind of context-less excepts. They're like glimpses at parallel universes. This hobby often doubles as an endless generator of quirky idiosyncracies.

So it is written, so it shall be done!
